2018 HAYS COUNTY MASTER NATURALIST TRAINING PROGRAM
Applications available starting November 27, 2017

Have you wanted to learn more about nature and wildlife in this area? Have you seen a bird or plant and wondered what it is? Are you trying to develop your property in an ecologically responsible manner? Then the Hays County offering of the Texas Master Naturalist Training Program is for YOU!

The Hays County Master Naturalist Chapter is accepting applications November 27, 2017 – January 5, 2018 from Hays County residents for the 2018 TEXAS MASTER NATURALIST TRAINING PROGRAM held from February - October 2018.
The program covers natural resource management, geology, water systems, birds, insects and mammals of Texas and much more. The program includes:

  • Classroom instruction and hands-on activities;
  • Class locations rotated between Wimberley, San Marcos, Dripping Springs and Kyle;
  • Ten classes held on Tuesday evenings, 6-9:30PM;
  • Speakers who are experts in their fields;
  • Two classes in the field on Saturday mornings;
  • Five site visits to local properties to view habitats, ecological diversity, and to identify plants and animals;
  • Various area field trips and guided nature & bird walks; 
  • Opportunities to volunteer in over 50 projects throughout Hays County.

Hays County residents have priority. Class size is limited and applications are accepted based on date received. Program is offered only one time per year.

COST : $175.  Application must be accompanied by $25 deposit, which goes toward the total cost of the course. Some scholarships are available.

Learning and Fun at the Texas State MN Meeting
Corpus Christi, October 2017

Lance Jones, Jane Dunham, Lauren Young, Peggy Wilfong, Deb Bradshaw and Dick McBride, with Mary O'Hara holding the Hays County MN sign, were among the 11 Hays MNs who attended the state meeting in October. Lance was honored at the meeting for reaching the 2,500-hour milestone of service hours, and Dick was honored for reaching the 4,000-hour level.


Reporting Your Volunteer Hours

Hays Master Naturalists are now using the TX Master Naturalists VMS (Volunteer Management System) to report hours of Volunteer Service and Advanced Training.
